invented in the late sixteenth century Japan.

Today chirimen is most often made of polyester
or viscose (also know as rayon) which have the advantage of being able
to wash easily unilke silk.

It is wrinkle resistant and has a shiny appearance.
There are museums in Japan from chirimen, especially in Kyoto.
